CD and Digipack - HAOS

I really like the fact that they decided to do the album in a black colour with shades of brown. I think this is really effective and for my digipack I would like to stick to the same sort of idea.

Classwork 26 November

In today's lesson I talked to Matt about what me and Theo saw yesterday. I showed him all the possible locations we could film and he quite liked the idea.
We also looked at the story board that Theo worked on in his lesson yesterday and we would like to change a couple of things and add more therefore we moved our deadline for completing the storyboard until Friday 29th November.

Location

Today me and Theo went to Roehampton to check out the possible locations for filming our music video. We thought of the estate in Roehampton because it sets the right mood for the music video genre and has some interesting filming locations we can use. Here are the following possible locations where we can film ...

We thought that we could film from various P.O.V. one of which was to film from the 2nd floor. At this point the camera would be filming the location and establishing the setting which is the estate. Then it would be looking down on Matt from the 2nd floor down on him. We also thought about standing Matt under an 11 level high block and lying on the ground with the camera to shoot from the bottom upwards in order to grasp the tall building behind him. This is a very typical thing for rappers to do and we want to include this in our music video too.

We also visited the youth club. Unfortunately it was closed at the time we were there but the basketball court was open so I took a shot of it. We thought that for casting possible 'actors' for out music video, we would use Theo's friends from the youth club and he would organize a group of teenage boys who would play basketball. We would then film this and include this in our music video. At the start we were going to film children playing at a playground but we found that we may be having problems with their parents not giving consent for this so this idea with teenagers would work perfectly too.

Classwork 19/11/13

We have talked about our planning and we decided that we will start filming in the middle of the next week. Sunday we will be going to our desired locations to see what they look like and is it's possible for us to film there. We are planning to finish the storyboard until this Friday.

Classwork 19/11/13

In today's lesson me and Matt wrote out our Plan for the coming week.

Classwork 18/11/13

Today we met up at lunch to talk about how we are going to Start the video. The meeting didn't go too well. We kept having different ideas. Especially Theo. He wanted the video to start off with me and Matt coming into a recording studio and interrupting him practising his rock. We left Theo outvoted because we believe that mixing two music genres when there is only one will ruin the effect of the video.

Marketing Strategies Presentation

Yesterday, Friday 15th November me and Matt presented to the class the marketing strategies for Master Zig TC. The character was made up by our teacher Miss Thrasher and we got into our groups and chose our desired character that we would market for.
We chose Master Zig TC because he was constructed to be an underground rapper. We did this because he was the closest we could get to when it came to the genre we decided to work in.
Marketing a mainstream star compared to an underground rapper is very different and on the poster below we wrote down our marketing points.
Marketing Strategies Master Zig TC
We were quite lucky to see the differences in marketing in class. This is due to the fact that everybody else had a mainstream artist to market for and because we had an underground artist, it was a bit of a twist.

Master Zig TC would definitely have a facebook account. This account wouldn't be accessable to any manager of Zig TC- it would only be accessable by himself. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and Instagram would definitely be used by him in order to spread the word around about himself and his rap. He would post pictures of himself on these pages and these would be more private, every day, day-to-day outtakes from his life. A mainstream star wouldn't be doing that because everything is monitored by their manager. On Youtube for example, he would be posting v-logs and videos from underground gigs and rap battles he was involved in or attended as well as his songs.

The way he would be recognised in the 'underground' is printed flyers and leaflets about upcoming events that he would be taking part in, whether it's supporting a mainstream artist or just doing rap battles in a club.

At the start I thought that there wouldn't be anybody that would market Master Zig TC but I realised that underground artists do this themselves.

'Your Music Genre' Questionnaire- classwork 12/11/13

In today's lesson our task was to construct a questionnaire for audience who listen to music. This is what I came up with…

My music genre survey

I've decided to arrange this survey into two columns as it's easier for the audience to complete the questionnaire. The important thing is that the audience don't feel like the survey/ questionnaire is endless. Therefore having a survey constructed on one side of a sheet of paper is much easier for them to complete and assures that they will not stop half way because it has too many questions.
I also included mixed types of questions and a range of ways to answer these questions. I have included a lot of closed questions where the audience are required to only tick one box. Instead of including only 'yes' or 'no' answers I also constructed a question which allows the audience to decide for themselves. This question includes a scale from 1-5 and enables them to be free with their option. On a number of times some people will not be able to decide whether they should put a cross on 3 or 4, at this point they may choose to draw the cross in between the two numbers. The difference of having a different way to answer a question captures the persons attention more as it's a different sort of answer and makes ten concentrate more on what feedback they will leave. I didn't want the questionnaire to be constructed of all closed questions so I also included questions where the reader will be able to express themselves in writing. When the audience have a chance to express themselves then they feel that they have something to say and that they are not being limited to answering only 'yes' or 'no' questions.

Goodwin

Goodwin’s music video analysis

Andrew Goodwin writing in ‘Dancing in the Distraction Factory’ (Routledge 1992)

1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics
(e.g. stage performance in metal video, dance routine for boy/girl band).

2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals
(either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).

3. There is a relationship between music and visuals
(either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).

4. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style).

5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.

6. There is often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other music videos etc).

Commenting on specific genre. Each genre has it's own style, relationship between lyrics and the visuals. As well as editing to pace of music desired, patterns of looking for example voyeuristic; scopophylic.
